The Port of Iberia recently donated $100,000 to South Louisiana Community College to be used as a scholarship fund.  Open to Iberia Parish residents, the scholarship is aimed toward students pursuing fields relevant to careers at Port businesses such as engineering technology, finance, cybersecurity, welding and logistics.  Thomas Falgout with South Louisiana Community College said they are planning to seek matching funds from the Louisiana Board of Regents.  Scholarship awarding could begin as soon as spring of 2026.  According to Patrick Broussard, President of the Port of Iberia Board of Commissioners, more work is expected in the near future with the Acadiana Gulf of Mexico Access Channel nearing completion.  “With the new opportunities, we need to be sure we have a local skilled workforce to meet the demand.”
